Pleasance Courtyard
This magical tale begins with a coral reef that has lost its colour. So begins a journey through the ocean with Kipper the sea dragon and friends to restore colour to the reef…
Along the way we meet kelpies, a family of seahorses, fishes, starfish and a crab – all wonderful puppet creations that captivate and delight. There are songs, live music from a pianist and plenty of chances to join in.
Each child is given a sparkly bag of props on arrival and the contents are neatly woven into the story at various points. My three year old particularly appreciated the flower garland necklace and the handheld disco light activated by bashing it on the floor!
At one point there’s a roving fishy bubble machine doing the rounds (an instant hit) and a parachute with a twinkly underbelly of streamers creates a magical tent over the audience.
The content, pace and focus on interaction was pretty perfect for my daughter’s age group. The story is clear, the visuals of the puppets and props are lovely and the cast is enthusiastic, welcoming, calm and engaging.
We loved Moon Dragon and now we love Sea Dragon too!
