A Bit of Christmas Magic….

Image result for morgan and west christmasWe were lucky enough to go and see Morgan and West: A (sort of ) Christmas Carol Magic Show ! last week and we LOVED it ! Readers of this blog will know that we are big fans of Morgan and West and have enjoyed their fringe shows….so this new Christmassy show was a real treat for us all. Featuring lots of little tricks and illusions for the younger ones, the lovable and quirky duo mix these really well into the well loved tale of a Christmas Carol. West may try and say he does not want to perform this tale, and Morgan’s enthusiasm for it overbears him but what results is a perfect mix of storytelling and sleight of hand tricks and illusions that can visibly astound.

Giant Christmas presents on stage reveal plenty of surprises and kept the audience guessing what was inside whilst Morgan and West looking their usual dapper selves,  managed to squeeze in some illusions, escapology, levitation, audience participation and of course some Christmas decorations into this fun packed hour ! There were plenty of giggles along the way too of course….

Highly recommended for a unique and alternative family show and to add more than a little magic into your Christmas !

My mini reviewer says : ”I liked the banana bit- banana, carrot, banana…(then he burst into fits of giggles and ran off !!!)….”

Theatre fun for Christmas…

So it looks like we are getting spoilt for choice with lots of exciting theatre to choose from this Christmas Season here in Edinburgh, there is something for everyone with some ballet, magic and of course the panto :

  • morgan_and_west_christmas_for_web_750x490 A (sort of ) Christmas Carol Magic Show – The delightful Morgan and West are back in Edinburgh to amaze us with their trickery and sprinkle a little chistmassy magic with this show-as a huge fan of their fringe show I’m very excited about this one ! The only problem is, they’re baffled by the story. Well not just one problem, there are also only two of them to play all the parts. Oh, and Mr West is rather insistent on doing a magic show at the same time. How hard could it possibly be?There’s fun in store for everyone in this utterly splendid (and totally silly) Christmas magic show!    1st December – 7th January  Festival Square Theatre

The Secret Life of Suitcases…

Folks, if you did not manage to see this FANTASTIC show during the Fringe last year, then please, please get your tickets now. It’s returning for a three day run back at the Scottish Storytelling Centre  from the 1st – 3rd December and its absolutely brilliant….(I wrote a review last year which you can read here )

The Secret Life of Suitcases, features Larry who is very very ‘busy’, and we watch as his life gets turned upside down by the arrival of a very interesting little suitcase. This serene and imaginative puppet show takes us from the dreary office that Larry works in and out into open space – a park, the ocean, a tropical island and lastly outer space itself ….

You’ll be sure to love it !

Diwali Festival..

Diwali is the Hindu festival of light, and this Saturday the 12th November, there is going to be a Diwali parade and celebration in Princess Street Gardens afterwards which looks great!

Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over dark, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali brings Joy, prosperity, knowledge, peace and wealth. People celebrate Diwali through distributing sweets, gifts and thanks giving to each other.

Edinburgh Diwali is committed to bring the richness of Indian culture to Scotland and to Scottish community by celebrating the Festival of Light in Edinburgh on Saturday 12th November at the Ross Band Stand. Their website has all the timings of the parade and celebrations in more detail, but the parade will start at 2.45pm from the City Chambers on the High Street with over 300 people carrying Diwali lights and dancers and musicians, from 4pm onwards at the Ross Band Stand in Princess Street Gardens there will be folk dancers, live music, Bollywood dance and the whole event will finish with fireworks.

This looks fantastic and a great way to celebrate Diwali !!

Halloween Festival time….

So, after a much needed half term holiday away, it appears that one of my favourite festivals is just about upon us….Halloween. I love Autumn in Scotland, and I enjoy the nights getting darker and cosy, and the leaves turning and the promise of winter just around the corner…and I love Halloween and bonfire night too !

There seems to be an abundance of great events and happenings going on this weekend, here are a few top picks :

  • Image result for samhuinn edinburghSamhuinn Fire Festival – I used to perform in this many moons ago, and its spectacular, its the quarter year festival celebrating the Celtic New Year and the coming of winter and is the night when the veil between the two worlds is said to be at it’s thinnest and summer is overthrown by winter. As always, there will be lots of drumming, some great acrobatics and brilliant fire !! This year its back on the Royal Mile, with the parade starting at 9pm on the 31st from the Castle Esplanade leading to West Parliament Square.

 

  • Botanic Frights -Due to overwhelming demand, Botanic Lights have announced that an extra-night has been added on Monday 31st October for those looking for family Halloween fun at ‘Botanic Frights’!Limited tickets are available for special Botanic Lights sessions, which will run every 15mins from 5.30pm – 8pm, and they’re encouraging families and children to dress up in their spookiest costumes for amazing night time experience in the Garden.

 

  • Skeleton Rave with Big Fish Little Fish – Big Fish Little Fish will be hosting another fantastic event in Edinburgh on the 30th October at La Belle Angele from 2-4.30pm. Featuring a fantastic DJ, craft tables, play area with tents and tunnels, tattoos, glow sticks, parachute dance, bubble machine and more this sounds like lots of fun ! Dressing up Halloween theme strongly  encouraged !
