Edinburgh International Book Festival 2025

I am extremely late in writing this post, as the book festival opened this past weekend. As always, the Book Festival is fantastic and offers loads of opportunities to keep the wee ones busy – all of the children’s events are listed here. There is also a dedicated kids area within the festival space and the well loved children’s bookshop..

There are some good drop-in/free events over the next couple of weeks :

Sunday 17th AugustDesign the Future with Remode Collective – Join Remode Collective for a drop-in sustainable textile session reimagining recycled and donated fabric into bookmarks, keyholder charms, and mini fabric artworks. Princess will be greeting families between 1pm and 2.30pm so make sure you arrive on time and are prepared to queue. Please note that due to unicorn welfare, Princess may need unexpected breaks. If you arrive too late to meet Princess, we suggest leaving her a wish and heading to our special unicorn craft session.

Sunday 24th AugustLetters Fae the Locals with Refuweegee – Pop by and lend your creative brain to writing a welcoming message (or drawing!) to refugees arriving in Scotland. The team from Refuweegee will guide you in creating these heartwarming messages which will then be distributed within their community-built, personal welcome packs to help people feel more at home here.

Edinburgh Book Festival 2024 – 10th – 25th August

The Book festival is opening this weekend and it’s in a brand new venue – the Edinburgh Futures Institute, which is fantastic, as its close to the other main festival venues so it is easy to include a visit of you’re out and about.

You can look at the list of all the children’s events here– . There’s also a whole section of the website dedicated to getting creative, with information on all the different interactive and arty events they are hosting – here. And, if that wasn’t already enough – this year, they are giving you the opportunity to come and meet some of your favourite characters, including the Gruffalo and Pikachu – more about that here.

There’s lots of information about visiting the Book Festival on the website itself, and if you’ve missed out on tickets, don’t worry it’s still worth visiting; there’s free events every day, areas for kids to play, guest appearances from costume characters and a fantastic bookshop to browse for the wee ones….a link to all the free events for children is here, there’s story time, hip hop, gruffalo trails, zine making, yoga and much much more…

Enjoy !!!
