More fun times ahead….Art Walk Porty this weekend…

Phew..it’s been a busy old festival season –  32 shows later and I am exhausted ! I’m also feeling a little sad that it is all over as I’ve had so much fun and it’s great to see the city so alive with all the shows, performers and events.

But there is no need to be sad for long as I have done a little research and September promises to bring us some fantastic festivals and events too including Septemberfest, a Harvest festival, Viking festival and even a Pirate day !  I am sure all of these will help ease us all into the Autumn….

So, today the fun kicks off with the Art Walk Porty – on from the 3rd – 6th September, this art project celebrates the public space and artistic activity of Portobello, featuring open artist studios, site-specific beach art, pop-up makers markets and more.

Site specific works will be placed in many hidden and unfamiliar parts of the prom and beach. Amongst the works, Emma Macleod creates a clay ceramic installation for the Figgate Burn tunnel playing homage to Portobello’s industrial past and Lauren Fox creates a tidal octopus positioned at the end of the groyne on Bath Street, only fully visible at low tide. On the high street St Mark’s Church is home to a new installation from Juliana Capes.

Check out the website for more information, but with art walks, open studios and art in the shops and cafes it all looks really interesting….

Festival fireworks – Monday 31st August

Edinburgh International Fireworks 2012 by Grant Ritchie: http://photosofedinburgh.wordpress.com/The fiery finale to the Edinburgh International Festival will be held on Monday 31st August at 9.30pm in Princes Street Gardens.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh’s iconic Castle, the evening brings together the stirring playing of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with an incredible concert-long fireworks display, specially choreographed to the music.

You can see the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert from Inverleith Park where they have a free family viewing area, a mile to the north of the City Centre. This area is ideal for family’s with young children as it is less busy. It has good views of the castle and a live video link and sound system to capture the Concert in the Gardens that accompanies the fireworks display. It’s not as exciting as being up close, under the castle, but you can avoid the uptown crush of Princes Street. Get there earlyish – proceedings start at 7pm .

Wherever you are in Edinburgh, join in and hear the music live by tuning into Forth 1 97.3 from 9.00pm.

Last two days…

The count down is on till the end of the Fringe and if you’re still thinking of cramming in a few shows or events, you’d best do it now !

The BBC tent has some more Digital Fun stuff going on tomorrow (Sunday 30th) :

They have digital toys to play with from the University of Edinburgh, including robots, coding apps, board games and build-your-own electronic toys.

They also have interactive sessions with Foxdog Studios, who’ll be making music in the Pink Tent with help from audience members, who’ll use phones and tablets to control games, drawings and musical instruments.

Once again its all free, pop down between 10am and 4pm .

If you are thinking of squeezing in one more show, I would recommend :

Enjoy the last few days !!
