Scottish Storytelling Centre
A gentle, joyful introduction to Shakespeare for tiny theatre-goers !
Romeo and Juliet for Bairns was very much a family affair, with storyteller Brooke’s son offering us all stickers on the way in and little ones of all ages being encouraged to join in with the action. We particularly appreciated that Brooke took the time to learn everyone’s names and engaged with the children at a level that suited them – her passion and dedication really came across, making the whole experience feel welcoming and personal. Cat ears, masks, disco lights, cuddly pizza slices and plenty more were brought into play to bring the story to life (while neatly skipping over the dark ending !… Fair enough, it would be a challenge to make it baby friendly!). I’m not sure how much story our mini reviewer (20 months) picked up on, but he definitely enjoyed pressing buttons to make a galloping noise!
We would definitely recommend as a genuinely inclusive, relaxed and fun show for those with babies and toddlers, the Scottish Storytelling Centre is a lovely venue too, really nice cafe with lots of space to run around to burn off some energy afterwards…
