The Small Bright Things

The Small Bright Things

PHB’s Free Fringe

The Small Bright Things is particularly great for local parents and carers: it’s on twice a day (more likely to work around nap times!), it’s part of the free fringe, and it’s at central youth hostel, half way down Leith Walk with a nice spacious cafe and away from the madness of town.

The performers were welcoming and they had created a beautiful woodland landscape. They introduced us to creatures and fairies of the woods through a mix of puppetry and shadow puppetry. My mini reviewer (20 months) was impressively still and engaged, and our mini reviewer peer pal gave an excellent running commentary (“fairy flying like helicopter!”) although the show I think is more suited to littler little ones (under 1s perhaps?). For the adults there could have been slightly more narrative and finesse, and for some littlies it was perhaps a bit tricky not to be able to explore the space and the props until the end, but all in all a lovely gentle 45 minutes.
