Edinburgh Festival Carnival…July 14th 2019

Yes…it’s the most musical, colourful, magical parade of the year – Edinburgh’s flamboyant start to the festival season…the carnival parade. Hosted by the Jazz and Blues Festival – the weekend also features the Mardi Gras based in the Grassmarket and another family friendly event full of colour and sound !!

A taste of New Orleans in the historic heart of Edinburgh.

Non-stop entertainment and a party atmosphere as a host of bands perform on multiple stages bringing swing, dixieland, funk, soul gypsy jazz and brass band music to the heart of Edinburgh.

This year the line-up includes: Quattro MacJazz, Rianna Walcott Trio, Romacaleo, Harry Weir’s Brass Band and many more.

Edinburgh Festival Carnival – Sunday 14th July from 2pm

Princes Street and the gardens will play host to the Edinburgh Festival Carnival on the 14 July.

From the top of the Mound to the West End of Princes Street expect to see flamboyant outfits and world class music from over 800 Carnival Performers as the streets are transformed into a party atmosphere.

Music, dance, costumes, circus, acrobatics from all over the world.

From 3 – 4.30pm the sounds of the world will beat from the stage of the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens; and from 3.30pm-5pm, we have dance, music, circus, and street arts, plus a special kids area. Come for the colour, spectacle, sounds and electric atmosphere.

So, kicking off festival season once again it’s the very colourful and vibrant Jazz and Blues festival and their jam packed weekend of family friendly events with the Mardi Gras and the much loved festival Carnival

Both the Mardi Gras and Carnival are on the weekend of the 14th and 15th July and promise an extravaganza of music, colour, sound and feathers !!!

Mardi GrasFrom 1pm at the Grassmarket, there will be a party atmosphere as a host of bands perform on multiple stages bringing swing, dixieland, boogies, blues and New Orleans to the historic heart of Edinburgh.

This year the line-up includes: Brass Gumbo, Hamlet, Kronendal Music Academy (South Africa) and Becc Sanderson Trio.

 

Carnival! imageCarnival – Sunday 15th July 2018 from 1.30pm – 4pm at Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens. The seventh Edinburgh Festival Carnival promises to deliver a dazzling spectacle under the castle!

Over 800 performers will create an extravaganza humming with the rhythms of salsa, African drummers, Balkan beats and swirling pipes and a feast for the eyes with sequined dancers, feathered costumes, Chinese dragons, circus performers and street theatre.

Music, dance, costumes, circus, acrobats and puppetry, from all over the world, and all over Scotland!

Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival 14th-23rd July 2017

Goodness ! Festival season has totally crept up on me and now it feels like its hurtling towards us at fast speed !! Kicking things off this summer is the Jazz and Blues Festival from the 14th to the 23rd July. This features two very fun and family friendly events, namely Mardi Gras and the festival Carnival ! So expect some magical musical madness and colourful feathers galore !

Mardi Gras is on Saturday 15th July 1pm-4pm. The historic heart of Edinburgh becomes a mini New Orleans for the afternoon.A host of bands create non stop entertainment and a party atmosphere on stages across the Grassmarket, including   latin-swing band mixed with upbeat ska rhythms Swing’It Disney which sounds like one for the little people !

Carnival! imageCarnival is on Sunday 16th July at The Mound, Princes Street and  Princes Street Gardens. It is free admission, thanks to City of Edinburgh Council, timings are:

2.30pm: Parade from The Mound to the West End of Princes Street
3.30pm-5pm: Performances in Princes Street, Princes Street Gardens

There will be over 800 Carnival Performers! With music, dance, costumes, circus acrobats, puppetry from all over the world, this is not to be missed!
