BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals 2017…

Image result for bbc at edinburgh festivalsThe luscious bright green fake grass, the brightly coloured deck chairs, the pink and blue tents, the ping pong table and the yummy food and drink…yes, it’s all returning ! And this year BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals is back in the rather grand location at George Heriot’s School again with the wondrous Edinburgh Castle for a backdrop…what more do we all need ??

It will be open from Friday 4th to Friday 25th August.

Readers of this blog will know this is one of my favourite places to hang out during the festival, to sit and watch the big screen, get involved in the daily kids activities and sample some of the tasters of shows from all the venues.

Every year the BBC tent hosts a fantastic variety of children’s events and activities and I’m certain this year the programme will be bursting with fun yet again. They have just released a list of their children’s activities for this year here and it’s looking great ! – author events, arts and crafts, dance workshops, mini beasties, geology, dragons, storytelling and much much more !

This weekend, the opening weekend is jam packed full of family friendly activities including:

  • Circus Open Toybox (Ages 5+)   Fri 4th 9.30am – 1.30pm and Sat 5th August 12pm – 4pm

Be an Absolute Genius this weekend in the BBC tent..

This weekend the theme is science at the BBC tent…both Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th will feature the CBBC science buskers for scientific fun and energetic experiments in the PInk tent from 9am till 4pm !

In the Blue tent there will be the show ‘Absolute Genius’ with Fran Scott delving into genius ideas from the past – expect explosions !! This is a free event and is ideal for 6-12 year olds and their families. The 10.30am show on Saturday has already been ticketed in advance but tickets for the other shows at 12.30pm / 2.30pm / 4pm will be available from the BBC Information Point at Potterow from 9am on a frist-come-first-served basis, these events last for 30 mins.( I imagine the same will apply on Sunday with the 13.00pm / 15.00pm / 16.30 pm shows having tickets available on the day from 9am.)

If you head along I hope it’s lots of fun….

Rastamouse and the Rocksteady Reggae School

Sadly I will be away this weekend – but this event looks great !!!! If you are a fan of Rastamouse, or if your children like him too, then you should head down to the BBC tent this weekend…

.Rastamouse

Rastamouse and the Rocksteady Reggae school will be at the tent at Potterow on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August – skating in for a muscial celebration of rhythm, reading and storytelling.

For those families wanting to get hands-on experience of the Nuff Song vibe, experts from The Rastamouse Rocksteady Reggae School will be on hand throughout the day running interactive workshops to inspire music-making and performance. Workshops are 30 minutes long and  run from 09:30 – 16:00. These workshops will be in the Pink Tent and are unticketed.

Rastamouse Shows lasting for one hour start at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. Shows are in the Blue Tent and are ticketed from 10am each day – ask at the BBC Information Point for details. So if you didn’t get tickets by applying online you can still get some on the day.

And you get all this for FREE !! – Suitable for families and children of all ages ….have fun if you make it along !!

Apply for BBC tickets now !! (closing 22nd July)

Wowee – my investigations into the BBC area this year at the festival were obviously not that thorough as I missed the page detailing what shows are on and what shows you can apply for tickets for…and it turns out there are lots of great kids shows being filmed at the BBC tent and best of all we can all apply to get free tickets. You have until the 22nd July to apply for tickets and then names will be randomly drawn.

.
But if you don’t manage to get any, don’t despair as it says ” On family fun days tickets for additional shows are available at the venue. Please note, these shows cannot be pre-booked and will be ticketed on the day as first come first served. The family fun days are: Saturday 3, Sunday 4, Saturday 10, Sunday 11, Saturday 17, Sunday 18, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.”   Great ! I like the sound of the family fun days and if last year is anything to go by, its definately worth taking a look whats on and bringing the kids along one weekend…

So, shows you can apply for tickets for now include:

That looks like a great bunch of shows and lots of opportunities to be part of the magic at the BBC tent ! If you do apply, fingers crossed you get tickets !
